A story of love & memory . . .

A truly stunning collective work.
It began life as a story but grew into so much more, a story of love & memory,
inspiring photographs and film.  It is the lifelong workings of Gregory Colbert.

Written in the form of letters the tale takes the form of a book of 74 letters, written from a man to his wife of his expeditions to such places as  India, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tonga, and Namibia.
Blank pages in the book represent letters that were blown from the window or lost in transit.

I am hoping one day that the travelling exhibition "The Nomadic Museum",
will perhaps make its way to our country, for it would be a dream to see it.
thank you to Jackie Morris for sharing this link.

Gregory Colbert is an amazing man. Ashes and snow should be shown in schools. Thanks for reminding us again Ruthie. :)

Ahhhhhh....Ashes and Snow. Lucinda and I took my son to the show a few years ago in Santa Monica when he was in a stroller. Even at two years old, he was captivated too! Absolutely magical!! I will pray it comes to you Ruthie : )

These are truly amazing Ruthie and I've passed the reference on to my friends. I hope you're having a wonderful summer! I saw that you were linked yesterday as one of Terri Windling's Friday Recommendations on her Drawing Board blog (though I think spelled your name wrong), here: http://windling.typepad.com/blog/2011/07/friday-recommendations-2.html
Take care & thanks always for these lovely inspirations!

I recognized this photo right away. I saved the brochure when the show came to LA. It was worth the very long wait in line. The photos are breathtaking. I hope you get to see one day.
